Winter often means hot soups and cosy nights by the fire, but unfortunately it also tends to mark the start of cold & flu season. But while catching a cold or virus is sometimes unavoidable, there are some things that we can do to help boost our immunity and keep those nasty germs at bay.
It is important to always keep on top of personal hygiene habits such as washing hands, especially after using the bathroom, and holding objects that other who have been sick have touched. Always wash your hands before handling food too.
To avoid the spread of bacteria in your home ensure that you always throw away used tissues in the bin immediately, and sanitise surfaces regularly (this includes items such as phones & computers).
Try to keep yourself warm. If it’s cold, dont be afraid to rug up or to relocate somewhere warmer.
Eat a healthy diet with lots of fresh fruit and vegetables to help boost immunity, and dont skip means as you need lots of energy in winter to help keep yourself warm.
If you do get sick, remember to take time away from work or school to help prevent the spread of germs, and make sure that you get plenty of rest to help your body recover.
Visit your local doctor if you have any concerns, they will be able to recommend the best course of action for you.
